GETTING OLD

Today is my cute boy's birthday. Not my little cute boy, the cute boy I married. This will be the fifth birthday we've celebrated together. None of them have been very exciting; we celebrate as big as we can with our limited budget. I think birthdays are a great excuse to make a big deal though. I think your birthday should be filled with your favorite things, foods, and people. Cake for breakfast? Sure, why not? Skip work to go to the movies? Heck yeah. Your birthday is the perfect day to celebrate living.. so do what you love. That said, my poor husband is at work today as am I. We celebrated his birthday through out the month instead of waiting for today. Hopefully he's ok with it.

I'm pretty sure I've gushed enough on the internet about my boy but bare with me while I do it just a little more. This year I've gotten to experience something I never realized I would love so much. I got to see the man I married transform into a daddy. It's amazing how split second that transformation is--how quickly you change roles and become something you were always meant to be.

These boys are my two favorite people in the world. Everyday I am grateful for them in my life. I'm grateful for the things they teach me, for the ease in which they make me laugh, and for their hugs and kisses.

Casey is a great daddy. Hiccup loves him so much. They already have such a different relationship than that of a boy and his mama. They rough house together, they snuggle together, they watch Star Wars and Justified together. Casey picks out toys and books that he liked when he was little to give to Hiccup as he grows up. Casey tries to find clothes for the babe that he would wear himself. Casey is constantly telling Hiccup how handsome he is and how much he loves him.

.

Casey made shirts for Hiccup to wear when he was born, he designed things for his room, his baby book, and every announcement we've sent involving our little boy. Most times when we're out shopping he finds something to add to the cart for our little one.

I love my little family. I'm grateful for the boy I fell in love with and that he continues to do things that help me fall in love all over again. I'm lucky to have him as my best friend and EC. Hiccup is lucky to have a daddy who loves him so much and wants the very best for him.

Happy Birthday Bunny!

Some Words for a Wednesday

Pinned Image
Some of my favorite words are to my wedding song: The Girl by City & Colour. While Casey and I were dating I listened to this song on my way to work one day and it hit me how much it described our relationship. Last year City & Colour came in concert and we got to hear our wedding song live (on the day that just happened to be the day I found out I was pregnant). It was a great day overall. I will always love this song and sing along to it.

Movie Monday: In the Mood for Romance

I would never describe myself as the romantic type. Yes, I believe in love and I'm a sucker for a good love story but I'd never pick a romantic movie over a comedy or an action movie. Usually when I watch a romance, it's an accident because I thought the movie was about something else. That being said, these are some movies that help to reassure my belief in love.

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY starring Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal

"Waiter, there is too much pepper on my paprikash... But I would be proud to partake of your pecan pie."
"I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
"Well, if you must know, it was because he was very jealous, and I had these days of the week underpants."
"You're the worst kind; you're high maintenance but you think you're low maintenance."

I first watched this movie on tv with my mom, it was one of her favorites. The actual version is rated R and I can tell you the exact moments the four F words are said... language aside, this is my favorite movie. I see a lot of myself in Sally's character and Harry always reminds me of my friend Tyson. I'm a strong believer in being friends first, then falling in love. It may not always work out that way, but I think it's so important to be best friends with the same person you're in love with. It makes falling in love and staying in love that much easier.

A LOT LIKE LOVE starring Ashton Kutcher & Amanda Peet

"Oliver, this is your life. You can't wait for it to just to get you up on your feet.'
"I am pro-pancakes."
"Well, if it wasn't love, it was a lot like it."

This movie reminds you to never give up on love, that it has a way of sneaking up on you and working out for the best.

P.S. I LOVE YOU starring Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler, & Harry Connick Jr.

"Are you going to make me sleep in the tub again?"
"Losing your mind is not a luxury for the middle class."
"What do you want? I know what I want, cause I'm holding it in my hands."
"Every morning I still wake up and the first thing I want to do is to see your face."

This movie is a big fat cry fest but it's message is so sweet. Tell the people you love that you love them, never let them forget it.

FUNNY FRIDAY

I do not know why, but this strikes me as extremely funny, and no matter how many times I look at it, it still makes me laugh.

A TRIBUTE of sorts {second family}

I have been very blessed to love the family I married into. From the beginning they were kind and welcoming to me. I remember going over there for the first time to meet everyone. It was Sunday dinner, we had baked potatoes and chicken. Later Casey's brother and sister-in-law came over with their kids. My neice-to-be and I were instant friends. We colored in the front room while everyone talked and laughed and played cards in the kitchen. The first time I met the other brother and sister-in-law, he reminded me of an ex-boyfriend and she thought I was another girl Casey had told them about... ha! :0) Everyone was nice and funny from the start. They've always been supportive to us and excited to be a part of our life's changes.

For a little over a year, Casey and I lived just two houses down from his parents. They graciously let us use their washer and dryer since we didn't have one. We went and visited several times a week, most likely staying for dinner or some sort of treat. I'm grateful that we were so close and that our relationship with them grew over this time.

Father Childs/Scott/Grandpa: He makes the yummiest chocolate shakes which we request quite frequently, he's always got an answer to your question--whether it's the truth or not is up for debate :0) , he's helpful and handy and will always come to the rescue

Mama Childs/Brenda/Grandma: She loves her family with all of her being, she will do anything for her kids and grandkids, she loves to read and always has good recommendations, she will always give in to your request for cookie dough

Nate: He's a pro at growing facial hair, he loves the little kids, he's got awesome dance moves, he's a great story teller

Andrea: She's always great to turn to for advice, she tells it like it is so you know you can count on her to tell the truth, she's a great auntie and mama, she's good in a tough situation, she makes yummy cake pops!

Bostyn: is a great little athlete, is one of the smartest kids I know, and says prayers like nobody's business

Italy: my very first little friend, I love this girl. She's sassy and funny and such a ball of energy

Phoenyx: I'm so glad this little boy loves me. He knows I'm a sucker for his cute face and will give him pretty much anything he wants. He's getting so big which makes me sad. He's such a good pal to Hiccup and I'm excited to see them grow up together.

These kids give me great story-telling-material becuase they say and do the funniest things!

Ben: He's a good brother and friend, he's always good for a laugh, he is a good sounding board when you're having problems or struggling with something

Christine: She is kind and accepting, she is grateful and giving, she is up to the challenges life throws at her and handles them gracefully, she's a good sport and my favorite charades player

Reese: Such a cute blue-eyed girl, she sleeps like a champ and makes me jealous, she makes me excited to have a little girl

Casey: My hubby, the middle child, the peace maker who gets along with everyone

Hiccup: The youngest and busiest

Mikey: on a mission in Arizona--he comes home in April, we're excited to see him and hopefully rebuild a good relationship with him and for him to meet the new babies in the family

Jess: She takes such good care of Hiccup and is so good to her other neices and nephews, she has excellent taste in tv shows, she is growing up before my eyes into such a beautiful and confident lady, she will do such great things

Growing up with two little brothers, I'm so grateful now that I have sisters to turn to and to cry to and laugh with. I'm thankful for the lessons they've taught me and for the fun we have together.

No one in this family takes themselves too seriously so we always end up laughing ourselves silly when we're together. They are always good to turn for advice, comfort, and help. I'm glad that I can call them mine.

Movie Monday {movies from my childhood part2}

Some more movies that I grew up with and continue to love:

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS starring Johnny Depp, Winona Rider, & Dianne Wiest

"The light concealing cream goes on first. Then you blend, and blend, and blend. Blending is the secret."
"Forget about holding her hand, man. Think about the damage he could do to other places."
"Darn this stuff!"
"That was the single most thrilling experience of my entire life."
This was another babysitter classic. As a young child I was intrigued with Edward, and only till years later did I learn that it was Johnny Depp. I've got to admit, I'm a fan of pretty much anything Tim Burton. I love this movie.

THAT THING YOU DO starring Tom Hanks, Tom Everett Scott, & Liv Tyler

"Where was I? Oh yeah, playing songs on my guitar."
"I play a lot of cards. Obviously. Wanna see my deck? ... See? You gotta be quick! You gotta be quick with me! I'm from Erie, P.A.!"
"Oh, I'm not here with these fellas. I've got a pig in competition over at the livestock pavilion, and I am going to win that blue ribbon!"
"You are my biggest fan."
"I led you here, sir, for I am Spartacus."
" Luke? Who's Luke? When are we gettin' the records?"
"Thank you, Illinois! The Land of Lincoln!"
"Chad, who's Chad?"
I think my family wore out the Movie Buffs copy of this movie. Even my dad would watch it with us and laugh. Tom Hanks rocked my socks with this one.

THE LITTLE RASCALS starring Travis Tedford, Bug Hall, & Brittany Ashton Holmes

"Dear Darla, I hate your stinking guts. You make me vomit. You're scum between my toes! Love, Alfalfa."
"That wasn't sand, that was kitty litter."
"I'm usually a lover, not a fighter, but in your case, I'm willing to make an exception!"
"People, people, we need your money!"
"You're a team, like Bert and Ernie, Superman and Clark Kent, Milli and Vanilli."
I went with my grandma and saw this movie when it was playing in the Cinedome. The first five minutes of the movie where Buckwheat and Porky are fishing we laughed so hard. My grandma was probably just laughing at how hard I was laughing but it is still such a fun memory of her. I could quote this entire movie, I love it that much. And all the fun adult cameos are pretty great too.

OVERBOARD starring Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell

"A falsetto child?"
"And my husband may be a "large child," but that's none of your business! And my children may be rotten, but they're MINE. And I think that they're bright, and sensitive, so I have no doubts whatsoever about their intelligence. I do however have serious doubts about YOURS."
"I just... ate a bug!"
"Oh, and give my regards to Schwartzman and Heineken!"
We would watch this as a family; it always made us laugh. I love when she sprays everyone with the hose and when they make the mini golf course. And when I was little I thought my dad looked like Kurt Russell. :0)
